The Word is Spreading

This morning I was happy to find in my inbox a newsletter from the renowned Dr. Judith Orloff, stating she had recently gone gluten and sugar free, and she recommended this way of eating to other Empaths. I felt quite excited by the fact word is clearly spreading about the importance of addressing the diet to find complete balance, health and happiness as an Empath.

I have written about the benefits of changing the diet for some years now, after seeing the changes in myself when I removed certain foods from my diet. Not only in my health but to my Empath ways. What we eat can either bring us down or transform our life in the most amazing way. The more of us who discover the power our food has on our life, not just as an Empath but as a human, the more of us who can then spread the word to others.

I believe so much in the transformational benefits of the proper diet for those who are Sensitive that I have written a book about it called: ‘The Eating Plan for Empaths and HSPs – Change Your Diet Change Your Life!’ Here’s a snippet of what the book entails:

  • Why the wrong diet leaves the Empath life-weary, energetically open and overly receptive to the negative emotions of others.
  • What you don’t know about wheat. How it has been genetically altered and why this has impacted our health and Empath traits.
  • The destructive effect wheat and sugar has on the Sensitive person’s brain and the reason they are hidden in most processed foods.
  • Why Empaths and HSPs are hardwired into becoming addicted to drug-like foods and how this can be effortlessly corrected.
  • How strong emotions, coupled with poor diet, damage the gut and trigger anything from anxiety and excessive introversion to lower back pain and stomach disorders, and the approaches to rectify the damage.
  • Ways to soothe the seat of emotions through nutrition.
  • An easy-to-follow eating plan that will get you off wheat and sugar for good, reshape your life and lead to a more blissful existence.

the-eating-plan-for-empaths-and-hsps-pic-monkeyAs well as a 4-week elimination plan, the book includes at least 90 mouth-watering, easy-to-follow recipes to make the food transition a comfortable and effortless one.

I have amassed a wide selection of gluten and sugar-free recipes since I first eliminated wheat, back in 2012, after much trial and error (and mess) in the kitchen, and have included many of them in the book.

The path of the Empath is already challenging enough; we should not be brought further down by what we eat. We all want to attain balance and peace, but that will not happen without a change in our eating habits. The wrong diet will affect your spiritual awareness and prevent intuition from developing, it also heightens the impact of other people’s energy and emotions, and hinder one’s ability to find inner calm, happiness and health… something we all need to experience in our life now. The thing is, until you make the necessary changes to your diet you won’t see how foods, like wheat and sugar, are affecting you.

My life has transformed since changing my diet and I know yours can too. If you are interested and ready to change your diet and change your life, whilst losing some weight in the process, this book is for you!

Until next time

Summer Solstice, The Strawberry Moon and Empath Power

This Monday 20th June 2016 befalls a rather special occurrence… The summer solstice.

summer solstice

The summer solstice has long-since been noted as a magical day with a time-honored history of celebrations. This year’s solstice comes with an extra bonus of being a full moon. The last time this occurred was 70 years ago.

There are not many who have ever experienced a celestial event of this magnitude. Having a full Strawberry Moon on the same day as a summer solstice is a truly rare event.

The full moon in June is known as the Full Strawberry Moon because it is the time of year to harvest ripening fruit, which also coincides with the strawberry season.

full moon

If you are sensitive to the energy of full moons and/or solstices, this one will surely pack a magical punch. It is a great time to set your intentions for the year ahead and wonderful period to spend in contemplation and meditation (and to spend as much time as you can in nature) to experience the full magnificence of this occasion.

Empath Power

Empath Power, the book, has now been released. I timed the release to coincide with this magical solstice weekend. It is available in both paperback and eBook versions. Here is a snippet of what it entails:

Empat PowerThere are some major changes happening on the planet affecting Empaths on many levels. These changes bring pain, emotional disruptions, repetitive, negative thought patterns and physical distress.

With any energy shift Empaths, and anyone of a Sensitive nature, get clobbered from all directions. Not only do they endure the discomfort of a shifting period in their own way, but they also pick up on how the populace are experiencing these ups and downs. If you often feel overwhelmed and overloaded by all you have to process during these turbulent times Empath Power is for you.

As an Empath you are one of life’s game changers! It is imperative you stay grounded, protected and healthy during these testing periods and this book is your guide to show you how!

You can go to the Kindle store here to read the first section for free and see if this book is what you might need at this present time.

Have a superb Strawberry Solstice weekend!

Until next time…

Defining the Emotions an Empath Feels in Others

Learning to differentiate between emotions can be a challenge for the Empath. We all know we can feel them in those around us, but we don’t always grasp their meaning.

I often get asked questions like: ‘I don’t know how to define what I feel in another person,’ or ‘I can feel strong emotive sensations but I do not understand what they signify.’

Not understanding what others’ emotions represent is more common than you might think in the Empath world.

When I was younger, teens and twenties, I could not differentiate what emotion I was sensing in others. In fact, I didn’t realize I was feeling other people’s emotions/energy. I thought it was my own insecurity that made me uneasy with certain people. When someone had any hidden pain, negative energy, anger issues or inauthenticity, it all seemed much the same: uncomfortable. I felt the sensation of their emotions around the solar plexus area and the vibration was similar to a muted sense of dread or what a bad decision feels like. This energy would have a knock-on-effect on my body and mind; affecting my thoughts and the way I operated. Continue reading

Access the Second Brain for Greater Intuition

Empaths have a strong sense of intuition. Their Empathic antenna is on often high alert sensing all that is right or wrong in the world as a form of protection. Understanding how our intuition works is the best way to use this gift. To know this we need to become better acquainted with our feelings.

INTUITION

The “feelings” within our solar plexus region are coming from what is known as our second brain, the gut. The sensations come from the enteric nervous system, a network of neurons lining our gut and responsible for the “butterflies” felt in the stomach area.

Science is now recognizing what ancient yogis discovered hundreds of years ago: that our emotions are influenced by our gut nerves. Everyone feels excitement, fear and nervousness in the gut area, but as Sensitives, we feel it so much more.

Do Empaths Have Mediumistic Abilities?

pschic development imageBecause Empaths are an intuitive bunch it can arouse the question whether they also have psychic and mediumistic abilities. Being mediumistic is not a trait to fall under the ‘traits of an Empath’. However, there are some who do have this ability.

Some Empaths have mediumistic abilities and some mediums have Empathic abilities. But whether we were born with mediumistic abilities or not, it is a gift that can be developed. If it is something we are drawn to and want to develop most can work towards becoming gifted mediums. Empaths are highly intuitive and are aligned to most things of a metaphysical nature. We often experience a strong pull towards mediumship in the ‘early days’ of awakening. However, it is not a subject one should take lightly and finding a good teacher is essential. The teacher has to know and understand all about the traits and sensitivities of an Empath. Continue reading

Develop Empath Intuition

Practicing meditation is essential for developing Empath intuition!

Meditation is one of the most powerful tools an Empath can use for their personal growth. A committed daily practice will serve in many ways. It will help strengthen the mind, body and spirit. It will build a powerful shield around the Empath and open up their intuition like nothing else. Strong intuition requires a clean and clear mind. A cluttered, thought-filled mind will do nothing to help us grow or develop our abilities. When we have clarity of thought and a lucid mind, magical things can happen. Thoughts are addictive and difficult to break free from. However, once we reset the mind through meditation we can switch them off far easier.

VF01

Not only does meditation build our intuition it also reprogrammes the brain into being able to better deal with negativity and enables us to deal with the onslaught of thoughts, energy and emotions we pick up from others.

Most Empaths find meditation incredibly difficult to get into because of their creative and over-active mind. Perseverance is all that is needed. Starting with a five-minute practice and building up into twenty to thirty minutes will reap incredible benefits.

Thoughts can be destructive to our health and wellbeing, especially when they are negative and repetitive. Empaths tend to spend a lot of time in their heads, which is great when thoughts are creative, happy or enlightening. However, spend too much time around certain people or in certain places and the happy thoughts can quickly turn into painful memories, anger or thoughts of being wronged. Being with certain other people can contribute to having repetitive dark thoughts. However, we don’t always make the connection because the over-whelming thoughts don’t always kick in till a day or two after being around those who triggered them. We can get so caught up and lost in these thoughts and the emotions they create that we do not question their origin. By stilling the mind in mediation it will help put a stop to any thought induced emotions.chibi_buddha_144332

I believe the best way to meditate is with an erect spine, either sitting in a straight-backed chair or in a comfy cross-legged or kneeling position on the floor. Keeping the spine straight and upright allows the energy to flow up and down and the breath to be calm. There are some who will say lying down is a perfectly acceptable way to meditate, but it is too easy to fall asleep when lying down and the opportunity to consciously quieten the mind is lost. Just make sure you feel comfortable before you start.

One of the best ways to quickly get out of the head is to focus our awareness outside of ourself, using a meditative technique called mindfulness. This can be done almost anywhere and involves focusing on something outside of your mind. You could gaze at a flickering candle or pay close attention to your scenery as you pass it by (obviously not to be done whilst driving). If you like walking in nature look up at the trees and notice all you can about the bark, branches and leaves, see the different cloud formations in the sky or inspect the wild flowers growing within the foliage.

We can engage mindfulness when walking through a busy shopping centre or peopled place. You can do this simply by paying close attention to your walking gait: notice how the heal and sole of your foot hit the floor as you walk, how this in turn carries on through the legs and up through the body, notice how your arms move, how your shoulders and head feel. Even if you do this for a matter of minutes it is a form of moving mindful meditation that will reap many benefits.

Regular meditation helps clear the mind of thoughts, fact! However, thoughts will put up a big fight to stay centre stage. When we try to quieten our mind the monkey living in our head is activated. Jumping from one random thought to another, the monkey mind can be a challenge to still and for some it will take much more effort than for others (my monkey mind is like a hyperactive sugar-driven wild child). It is at the point when they are about to make a breakthrough in meditation, that many people will give up, citing they just cannot do it because it’s too hard. Yes, it can be difficult in the initial stages but nothing good comes easily. Transformation does not happen over night, but it will not take long for you to see how a regular meditation practice can be totally transformative and a fast-tracked way to developing greater intuition.

February is the perfect month to set yourself a four week challenge. Being a leap year makes it an extra special time to set your intention. Why not use the four weeks to commit to a daily meditation practice that can transform your life and start on Monday?

To see what amazing transformations can be had by practicing meditation, set yourself a four-week challenge and allot an amount of time each day to practice. I find mornings are easiest. Get up ten to twenty minutes earlier and start with five minutes then gradually build up. If you are on a time limit set a gentle alarm. It is amazing how quickly time will go once you are enveloped in your private mind sanctuary.

If you find meditation difficult it is always best to use a guided meditation until you have more control of your mind and thoughts. There are hundreds to choose from on YouTube. I have included one above and one at the bottom of the post, just to get you started (using earphones is always best with the guided mediations).

Before you start any guided meditation make sure you are compatible with the narrator’s voice. If you do not find the voice soothing then you may get irritated by it during the meditation, which will then be a distraction. Oh an make sure you won’t be disturbed.

Could the Empath be an Introvert Narcissist?

Contrary to the title of this post, I am not suggesting that Empaths are in fact covert introvert narcissists. The title was just to grab your attention. The reason being, last week an article came to my attention that made me stop in my tracks and was the cause for a lengthy conversation with myself about the traits of a narcissist and how they could be confused with the traits of an Empath.

As you read on you will understand why I felt the need to write this post and address this subject. There is much written about Empaths and narcissists and the toxic relationships that can result from these encounters. But I have had comments on my site (which I don’t publish if they are overly negative or attacking) comparing Empaths to narcissists and this is why I would like to address this subject.

Narcissism is defined as a psychological condition characterized by self-preoccupation and incredibly high self-esteem with a distinct lack of empathy. The origin of narcissism stems from the myth of Narcissus, the youth from ancient Greece who fell in love with his own reflection in the water, only to drown in the process.

Don’t Like What You See? Look a Little Closer… The Mirror of the Empath

mirrorWe have all experienced it, being around someone who has either taken an instant dislike to us, or a bizarre resentment suddenly appears in those we have known for some time. We may have no idea why the other feels this way, as we certainly have not given them reason to have such repugnance towards us. No matter whether they try to hide their feelings or not, we can still sense their loathing and it does not feel good!

Someone taking a dislike to another is a completely normal and acceptable part of life with everyone. We are all different and there will always be some people we do not get along with, whether Sensitive or not. For example, the first impression the Empath has when we first meet someone is always spot on, as to whether we could like or trust that person. This is due to having a strong sense of intuition and the ability to unconsciously read others. However, what can be baffling to the Empath is why some people act in such an animostic way towards us, when we know ourself to be a likeable and trustworthy person. Often we are not given a reason when someone suddenly changes towards us, becoming cold and uncaring almost overnight. It can just leave us scratching our head.

Are You A Multipotentialite Empath?

careerMany people struggle finding their life purpose, especially the Empaths. Feeling confused as to whether we are walking the ‘right occupational path’ is all too common for the Sensitive. There are many reasons for this, but the way the world makes us ‘feel’ certainly contributes to our confusion. Because we get exhausted, depressed or overstimulated by spending too much time around others, it can lead us to feeling unfulfilled and often blaming our chosen profession.

This sense of unfulfillment can lead us to trying many different vocations, in a bid to find the work that feels a fit and we hope will put us on the path to our true-life-purpose.

Empaths are hardwired into learning, gaining knowledge and wisdom. We have active imaginations and are often looking for ways to fill our creative-mind-space. Many try different posts, college courses or careers and believe the reason for this is because we are searching for our true vocation, however, there maybe another reason… You could be a multipotentialite Empath! Are you an Empath or HSP?

The definitions between an Empath and a highly sensitive person (HSP) are so similar that some may question as to which camp they fall in. Hopefully, after reading this you may have a better idea.

Here are some of the type of questions Elaine N. Aron uses in her book, ‘The Highly Sensitive Person’, to decide a HSP:

(The stronger you relate to the questions is an indication of your Sensitivity.)

  1. Are you aware of subtleties in your environment?
  2. Do other people’s moods affect you?
  3. Are you sensitive to pain?
  4. Do you need to withdraw if you are having a busy day?
  5. Are you sensitive to the effects of caffeine?
  6. Are you easily overwhelmed by strong smells, bright lights or loud noises?
  7. Do you have a rich and complex inner life?
  8. Are you conscientious?
  9. Do you startle easily?
  10. Are you aware how to make others feel more comfortable?
  11. Do you get frustrated if you are made to do too many things at once?
  12. Do you avoid watching violence on TV or in films?
  13. Do you become uncomfortable when a lot is going on around you?
  14. Do you avoid upsetting or overwhelming situations?

Surviving Christmas: A Guide for Empaths & HSPs

tree_2As you may have already noticed, it is getting ever closer to that dreaded time of year… Christmas!

For some of you, Christmas may be a much enjoyed time that you look forward to. I wish I could make that claim. Unfortunately, for many reasons, the festive season is one my least favourite times of the year.

When I was a younger (child to mid-twenties), I used to love Christmas and everything it stood for. But as the years passed the month of December became harder and harder for me to cope with.

Without fail, every year, at the end of November or beginning of December, I would start to feel low. My energy dropped; I would feel like I was coming down with a bug, I would be tense or harassed and just feel plain awful. On around December 28th I would strangely go back to feeling better.

In my mind I would always find a reason for feeling so bad: being extra busy at work, having an incredibly busy social life, eating unhealthily, drinking too much alcohol, not having enough sunlight, not doing enough exercise etc.… And so, over the years I tried many different approaches to make December more bearable for me: I made changes to my diet, I exercised, stopped going out, stopped drinking, went on a sunshine break, but nothing changed. I came to dislike Christmas so much (for many reasons and not just because I felt bad) that I simply opted out of the whole thing! But still, there was no change in the way I felt. Continue reading

What is an Empath’s Purpose in Life?

question mark

One of the most frequently asked questions by those on the path of awakening is: What is my purpose in life?

I know only too well how frustrating it is to have this question burning unanswered within.

For the Empath it is doubly frustrating because we have this incredible gift and most do not know what it is for or what we are supposed to do with it.

I have often been asked questions such as: ‘how can I be of service to others?’ or ‘I want to help others but how should I do it?’

It is an inbred trait for Empaths to want to help others, especially if they are suffering. However, many of us have tried and failed when attempting to help others help themselves. It can be incredibly soul-destroying to see another suffering and not be able to help them. Continue reading

12 Quick Questions to Discover if You Are an Empath

question mark

If you want to know if you are an Empath these questions will quickly help decide:

1. Do you walk into busy places and find yourself overwhelmed with emotions?

2.  Do some people make you feel inexplicably uncomfortable, finding you stumble over your words or have uneasy sensations in the pit of your stomach when with them?

3. Did you experience any strange phenomena as a child, such as seeing or hearing ghosts, having imaginary friends, seeing energy fields around objects or people, or knowing things you shouldn’t? Continue reading

Why Garlic is the Empath’s Best Friend

We all know that garlic keeps the blood-sucking vampires away but what about the ones we dread being in the presence of most…the energy vampires? For the Empath, it may not keep the latter away but it can certainly help counteract the damage they cause, both physically and energetically.

Garlic is an amazing tool when it comes to healing the body; it is a powerful antibiotic, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory, it helps remove heavy metals and contains potent anti-oxidants that help build a healthy immune system. However, for the Empath, it is what it can do for the energetic body that you may find of interest.

10 Essential Oils to Re-Balance the Empath

essential_oilsThe value of essential oils has been known for more than 6000 years, not only for their amazing healing properties but for their ability to bring energetic balance back to the body and mind, and promote emotional wellbeing.

Essential oils are composed of tiny molecules which can easily be penetrated by the body. When the essences are inhaled they enter the body, via the cells that line the nasal passages. These then send messages to the brain which directly affects the emotions by working on the limbic system, the limbic system controls the major functions of the body. Thus essential oils are able to heal and balance one’s physical and mental bodies at the same time.

Although the following essential oils have many therapeutic benefits, I will mainly be listing their energetic and emotional balancing qualities. These oils can also help remove the emotional energy, in the form of depression, low moods or anger, you may have picked up off others. Continue reading
