The Word is Spreading

This morning I was happy to find in my inbox a newsletter from the renowned Dr. Judith Orloff, stating she had recently gone gluten and sugar free, and she recommended this way of eating to other Empaths. I felt quite excited by the fact word is clearly spreading about the importance of addressing the diet to find complete balance, health and happiness as an Empath.

I have written about the benefits of changing the diet for some years now, after seeing the changes in myself when I removed certain foods from my diet. Not only in my health but to my Empath ways. What we eat can either bring us down or transform our life in the most amazing way. The more of us who discover the power our food has on our life, not just as an Empath but as a human, the more of us who can then spread the word to others.

I believe so much in the transformational benefits of the proper diet for those who are Sensitive that I have written a book about it called: ‘The Eating Plan for Empaths and HSPs – Change Your Diet Change Your Life!’ Here’s a snippet of what the book entails:

The path of the Empath is already challenging enough; we should not be brought further down by what we eat. We all want to attain balance and peace, but that will not happen without a change in our eating habits. The wrong diet will affect your spiritual awareness and prevent intuition from developing, it also heightens the impact of other people’s energy and emotions, and hinder one’s ability to find inner calm, happiness and health… something we all need to experience in our life now. The thing is, until you make the necessary changes to your diet you won’t see how foods, like wheat and sugar, are affecting you.

Why Am I Feeling This Way?

I hope this post finds you well, and everything is keeping well in your world.

I’ve been incredibly busy lately and not had time to write a post, which I’ve wanted to do for a while, to update you on what is happening energetically and how it could be affecting you. So today I’ve decided to drop everything else and address this important subject:

There has been a lot happening energetically. Huge shifts are bringing to the surface that which has long been buried, and it is causing many conflicts within people and activating painful emotions. As an Empath you may be feeling emotionally floored, angry, anxious or under attack by this energy.

You may also at times feel like you are out of body, observing life as it is going on around you, but not really feeling part of it. You may overhear conversations that seem so predictable and obvious that you wonder why others are having them. Or you may wonder why people can’t seem to jump off the hamster wheels they are so fervently spinning on. You stand by and watch helplessly as they run faster and faster, not allowing themselves to face the truths of themselves or of this world.

Everywhere people seem angry and preoccupied with issues or concerns. They are busy looking for ways to project this anger, which then fuels it further. This destructive energy then just builds and builds and becomes more overwhelming for those of us who are Sensitive. Continue reading

Here is a short extract explaining how the Empath’s weakened aura (energy-field) can impair their quality of life:

The Empath Aura

Your aura emanates around you like a luminous egg-shaped sheath. It extends around and away from the body for anything up to five feet (in a healthy person). The vibration of this energetic frame is fine and subtle.

Those who are unhealthy, in their body and mind, have an unhealthy, receded aura which is also permeable (energy leaks out and in).

Our aura both surrounds and penetrates our body and resonates with both our physical and mental bodies. Years’ worth of data is stored within our energy-field; this information is normally an accumulation of happy and sad experiences, ideas and opinions, unreleased painful emotions, negative thought-forms, past life memories and toxins, etc. Because Empaths pick up energy from others, we can also carry inside our aura their negative thought-forms and energy.

A weakened body and mind weakens our aura. Low-level thoughts and emotions, unbalanced chakras, food intolerances, poor diet, drugs and alcohol all impair the body, and anything that debilitates the body damages our aura.

When the aura is damaged, it becomes leaky. This is bad news on many levels: it allows our energy out (causing fatigue and other imbalances), and admits other people’s energy in, which then merges with our own.

Empaths are known to have a permeable aura, and this is why people’s energy can be so debilitating. But they are not the only ones. Anyone who is unhealthy or with emotional issues possess a weakened energy-field, which means their energy and emotions are also able to leak out.

If an Empath comes into close proximity with those who have a leaky aura, they will soak up anything leaked like a super-absorbent sponge. It may appear that strangers’ energy purposely infringes our own, but it is often an energetic merger.

If you are unhealthy, eat an unsuitable diet, take drugs or stimulants, drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, experience stress and have dark thoughts you will likely have a permeable aura. This means you pick the emotions and energy off others which then becomes etched within your energy-field. You are also affected by negative residual energy and other low frequency vibrations. The only way to heal the aura is by making some changes.

Experiencing overwhelm, after picking up a stranger’s emotional energy, often means the memory of it gets imprinted. Any future interactions, with unfamiliar energy, may cause something like an “energetic allergic reaction”. These reactions are draining and can leave us feeling well below par for hours or even days. If these responses become a common occurrence, following time spent in public places, it prevents us from fully participating in our own life. This is seen by avoidance of peopled areas and anything that involves social interaction.

By finding total balance of mind, body and spirit, it works something like an “energetic anti-histamine” for the Empath. A healthy body and mind results in a powerful aura and creates the Empath’s invisible armour.

A formidable aura empowers the Empath. It persuades other people’s energy to bounce off and is key to living a happier life.

We cannot expect our mind and spirit to be strong when we are putting something into the body that weakens it. Nor can we expect our body to be strong if we experience “Sensitivity stress”.

Sensitivity Stress

Empaths are Sensitive. Anyone who is Sensitive will experience overwhelming emotions, vivid thoughts, and they get hurt more easily than most. This can lead to Sensitivity stress which compromises the immune system… and eventually results in a damaged aura.

Sensitivity stress is endured by those who experience other people’s emotional pain and energy as an adverse reaction (feeling drained, experiencing negative emotion or becoming unwell), they also overreact to any emotional situation and are prone to having anxiety or panic attacks.

This type of stress is not caused by having deadlines to work to and a mammoth to-do-list (although they certainly won’t help), it is caused by having a Sensitive nature, being overly stimulated from external energy and/or having buried emotional pain. Just like normal stress, it damages the immune system and puts strain on the mind and body. This in turn leads to illness, rampant negative thoughts, and a weakened aura…

So there you go a sneaky peak at what The Empath Awakening is about.

Summer Solstice, The Strawberry Moon and Empath Power

This Monday 20th June 2016 befalls a rather special occurrence… The summer solstice.

The summer solstice has long-since been noted as a magical day with a time-honored history of celebrations. This year’s solstice comes with an extra bonus of being a full moon. The last time this occurred was 70 years ago.

There are not many who have ever experienced a celestial event of this magnitude. Having a full Strawberry Moon on the same day as a summer solstice is a truly rare event.

The full moon in June is known as the Full Strawberry Moon because it is the time of year to harvest ripening fruit, which also coincides with the strawberry season.

If you are sensitive to the energy of full moons and/or solstices, this one will surely pack a magical punch. It is a great time to set your intentions for the year ahead and wonderful period to spend in contemplation and meditation (and to spend as much time as you can in nature) to experience the full magnificence of this occasion.

Empath Power

Are You A Multipotentialite Empath?

careerMany people struggle finding their life purpose, especially the Empaths.

Feeling confused as to whether we are walking the ‘right occupational path’ is all too common for the Sensitive. There are many reasons for this, but the way the world makes us ‘feel’ certainly contributes to this confusion.

Because we get exhausted, depressed or overstimulated by spending too much time around others, it leads to feelings of unfulfillment, which we often blame on our chosen profession.

This sense of unfulfillment may push us towards trying many different vocations,  in the hope it will put us on the path to our ‘true’ life-purpose.

Empaths are hardwired into learning, gaining knowledge and wisdom. They have active imaginations and look for ways to fill their creative-mind-space. They may believe they like trying out new jobs because they have yet to find a career that is a fit, but there could also be another reason… You could be a multipotentialite Empath! Continue reading

Knowing It’s Time for the Empath to Let Go of Toxic People

To the Empath being in harmony with people in life is essential to their health and wellbeing. Toxic friendships cause untold pain and damage and should be avoided.

If there are people in your life who cause any kind of emotional pain, which lasts long after you’ve left them, it is time to evaluate the relationship and perhaps release them for your life.

Before you can be of service to others you have to find balance within and that means taking care of your physical and mental needs. It also means you should stop exposing yourself to anything which is toxic, in the form of food, substances or people.

Most Empaths have at least one toxic person in their life who cause a wave of intense, negative emotions to rain down on them, just by being in their presence. These people, who may be a friend or family member, seem to spew acid whenever they talk.

Their acidity is felt in any of the main energy centres (chakras), especially on the front torso, in the form of an ache or pain. To some, it feels like hot lava is being poured over the solar plexus area (seat of emotions). Others may experience aches or stabbing pulsations around their chakras.

It is normal for toxic people to talk negatively of everyone and everything. They can drain your life force within a matter of minutes. Even after trying every trick in the book for self-protection, nothing seems to stop their venom seeping into the Empath’s physical and energetic body.

 Typical sensations which can be felt by being with toxic people

  • Anger or feelings of bitterness embodying you: This can last for the duration of being in their presence and up to 10 days after. Depending on the negative traits they carry will depend on what you feel.
  • Fatigue: Struggling to keep your eyes open, especially if they are venting.
  • Being out of sorts: A range of strange feelings wash over you, from being spaced out, to nausea.
  • Negative talk: Finding yourself talking negatively of others, even though it is not a typical trait of yours. Overly toxic people can easily lure the unvigilant Empath into their judgemental behaviour.
  • Apathy: Losing all previous zest and optimism.

If you have a toxic person in your life you  may have already tried helping them by sharing what has helped you, in dealing with the rigours of life. Sadly, they did not want to listen to what you have to say about any kind of self-help, preferring to offload their negative rants on you.

You may have also tried getting them to see situations from different perspectives, hoping they may recognise that by changing their attitude it would change their whole life…to no avail.

The Empath would never want to hurt or cause unnecessary pain to others, and it is for this reason many keep in their lives those who cause much emotional pain. Yet, one must always put the emotional health of self first. If you know a food or substance made you violently ill or caused you to feel depressed, you would avoid it; the same should be applied to those who cause emotional turmoil.

We have a responsibility to keep our bodies and mental wellbeing strong and healthy, and if another is causing us damage (all stress will eventually lead to illness), it is our duty to either confront the said person or remove them from our life.

I am not talking about having the ego dented by another’s random disrespect. Everyone has people who offend, hurt or make them angry, by their lack of understanding. And they in turn will no doubt do the same to others. This issue is about those toxic friends, or family members, who repetitively bring you down and do immense energetic damage.

For the Empath, navigating friendships can be a grey area. Most people can invoke an emotional response and it is often the kindest of people who carry the most pain. Yet feeling another’s pain is nothing compared to what a toxic person makes you endure.

The point comes in all toxic friendships when you have to decide if it is causing more harm than good. Here are some questions to ask that may help you evaluate your friend/relationship and hopefully help you see if it is a healthy one:

  •  Am I taking anything from this friend/relationship?
  • Does spending time with him/her make me happy?
  • Do I dread being in his/her presence?
  • When was the last time I enjoyed being in his/her company?
  • Do we have any of the same interests?
  • Is it a one-sided friendship with me fitting in with his/her needs?
  • Does this relationship affect my emotional health?
  • Do I feel ill, emotionally drained or intense negative emotions after being with him/her?
  • Am I being used as an emotional dumping ground?
  • Does he/she have a lot of negative thoughts or anger towards me?
  • Am I learning anything from spending time with him/her?
  • Is being in this relationship making me grow spiritually, emotionally or other?
  • Is this relationship beneficial to either of us?
  • Has he/she become dependent upon me?
  • What are my real reasons for staying in this relationship?

I must point out that not all toxic relationships are destructive. There are many reasons we encounter toxic people. A common reason being the mirror effect. Certain encounters act as a mirror and show us weaknesses or issues we need to resolve within ourselves.

You may have seen a pattern of behaviour in the way family and friends behave towards you. For example: friends may act overly needy towards you or they may not be there for you when you need them. If you notice any behaviour, in others, being a trend, it is most definitely not happening by chance. Any undesirable behaviour that repeats, in any type of relationship, is something that needs to be investigated. Repetition highlights flaws or issues that they need to worked on and learnt from.

We all learn from the bad situations presented in life. Yet if the same emotional scenarios keep playing out no one is gaining, learning or growing from the situation and it is time to cut the chord.

Empaths take on and feel others emotions and energetic attributes, and it does them no good to keep in their life those who carry toxic energy. Once you have learned from an experience you don’t need to re-learn it over and over. You may learn a lot from bad people and bad experiences, but you don’t need to keep experiencing other people’s negativity to grow.

Repetitive painful emotions turn into illness.  If another repeatedly  leaves a dark imprint on you, simply by being in their presence, it is time to let them go. This is not about being hateful. You can be grateful to a toxic person for all they have shown you in life and send them love. But when it feels time to let them go then it is. If it makes you feel better about the situation tell yourself it doesn’t have to be forever.

Developing Traits of an Empath

In recent months I noticed many comments asking how to develop the traits of an Empath. Many are now wanting to follow their calling but are not sure how best to do it.

Although an Empath came into the world ready to do their job of transmuting negative, dense and dark energies, they find they are taken down by them. There are many things about modern life that pushes an Empath out-of-balance. This not only makes life difficult and sometimes painful, but it also means the energy they pick up has a negative impact on them.

It also doesn’t help that they cannot openly discuss their abilities. Try explaining to anyone, who has their feet firmly rooted in the material world, about an Empath: They assume you’ve lost your marbles and look at you as if you are from another planet. For this reason, many Empaths keep to themselves who they are, which can make this a lonely path to walk. It also makes it difficult live authentically. But this is not enough to stop the Empath from pushing onwards and upwards.

It goes without saying that an experienced Empath takes on more than the inexperienced. When I say experienced I’m referring to those who are aware of their gifts and know how to stay grounded and protected. Experience also comes through the obstacles and hurdles met and overcome.

Ironically you would think the more challenges an Empath faces the easier life would become. Not the case. Many Empaths find the further they travel in life the steeper their climb. I guess this comes down to the more done the more expected.

Empaths are constantly at work in the unseen realms mopping up negative energies. Whether they are aware of it or not, they go through life transmuting energy. And, as there seems to be a never-ending supply of dense and dark energies, they are always on call.

It is part of an Empath’s life-path to help bring balance into this chaotic world and many are doing this without being conscious of it. Sadly, the job of an Empath is thankless and, usually, an unrecognised one.  But all the same it is a very real one.

Unlike other metaphysical jobs, the majority are not aware of just how much an Empath takes on. What makes matters more frustrating is if they get labelled as being lazy or a hypochondriac because of what they take on.

Negative energy can make an Empath physically ill, especially when they have a weak energy field and are out-of-balance. It is the type of illness a medical doctor cannot treat.

Learning to discern between energies/emotions coming from their external environment, and that of their own, proves to be a huge challenge for an Empath but it is one of the first things they need to become aware of for self-protection (see this post). It is too easy for an Empath to take on another person’s pain and mistake it as their own. This causes stress and  emotional pain which may lead to unnecessary illness. Building a powerful energy field also helps protect from overwhelming emotions. A good diet and exercise is one of the best ways to do this.

I  recently watched a program about solar flares (coronal mass ejections) and how power plants protect themselves from their impact. When a solar flare is expected to hit, the power station cranks up the electricity in the grid to full blast. This gives a protective shield and diffuses the energy, of the flare, though the grid. The Sun’s energy can’t then fry the system. This reminds me of what happens when we do vigorous exercise: we crank up our feel good endorphins, which in turn raises our vibration and builds a stronger energy field so that when the external energies hit, they simply get diffused. Even just 5 minutes working out to your max reaps huge benefits. (If you become easily overwhelmed from too much energy see this post)

As well as doing exercise it is good to keep a quiet mind. Negative thoughts cause stress and emotional turmoil. Because an Empath picks up the thought-forms of others it is imperative they have control of their own mind and thoughts. Meditation is the best way to get a still mind.

However, sometimes, for the Empath, mediation is difficult to do or keep up. There are many reasons for this. But if you are one who finds mediation incredibly frustrating, do not despair. There are some other brilliant techniques you can try that will help calm your mind and build a strong energy field (see this post).

If you are interested in developing your intuitive gifts there are some easy steps to take (see this post), but if you are more drawn to developing other metaphysical abilities such as: healing or clairvoyance it is best to do so under the guidance of a good teacher (who knows about Empath abilities). Although some Empaths are born with clairvoyant, mediumistic, medically intuitive or other abilities, I would not recommend developing them on your own. Opening up energetically to the invisible realms may cause problems for the unaware and could lead to some scary experiences.
